Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address and first name, when you sign up for our newsletter or claim a free book.
- Name, email, shipping and billing details, when you buy something from our store.
- Anything you send us, if you email us or fill in a contact form.
We do not see or store your full payment card details. Card payments are handled entirely by our payment processors.
Information collected automatically
When you visit our websites, including our book landing pages, we and our service providers may collect:
- IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages viewed, time spent, links clicked, and scrolling behaviour
- The site or advertisement that referred you to us
- Anonymised recordings of mouse movement and page interaction, used to understand how visitors use our pages
How we use your information
- To deliver the free books and other files you request
- To send you our newsletter, with news about new releases and what we’re working on
- To fulfil and support orders placed in our store
- To understand which advertisements and pages actually work, so we don’t waste money on ones that don’t
- To answer your questions when you contact us
We will never sell your personal information, and we will never rent or trade your email address.
Legal bases for processing (UK and EU visitors)
- Consent — for marketing emails and for non-essential cookies and tracking. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Contract — to deliver a book you asked for or fulfil an order you placed.
- Legitimate interests — to keep our sites secure and understand how they are used, balanced against your rights.
Services we use
We rely on the following providers, who process data on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.
- SendFox — stores our mailing list and sends our newsletter
- BookFunnel — delivers free books and audiobooks, and collects email addresses when you claim one
- Shopify — runs our online store and processes payments
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — advertising, and the Meta Pixel, which tells us whether our ads led to signups or sales
- Mouseflow — records anonymised page interactions so we can see where visitors get stuck
- Activepieces — passes your signup details from our page to our mailing list
- Amazon — advertising and sales reporting
- Google Fonts — serves the fonts our pages use, which involves your browser contacting Google
- YouTube — hosts videos embedded on our pages, which may set cookies when played
- HostGator — hosts our websites
Cookies and tracking
Our sites use cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to function. Others help us measure whether our advertising is working.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you receiving a free book or placing an order, though some pages may behave differently.
You can opt out of Mouseflow’s tracking across all sites that use it by visiting the opt-out page on Mouseflow’s website. You can control how Meta uses your data for advertising in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
Marketing emails
If you join our list, you will receive our newsletter roughly twice a month, along with occasional news about new releases.
Every email we send contains an unsubscribe link. One click and you’re out, no questions and no hard feelings. You can also email us and we’ll remove you.
How long we keep your information
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. We also periodically remove subscribers who have not opened an email in a long time.
- Order records: as long as needed for tax and accounting purposes.
- Analytics and session recordings: as long as our providers retain them, typically a matter of months.
Sharing your information
We share your information only with the service providers listed above, and only so they can do the job we use them for. We may also disclose information if legally required to do so.
Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where information is transferred out of the UK or EU, our providers use appropriate safeguards for that transfer.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your information
- Ask us to stop using it for marketing
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these, email melisa@badashpublishing.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by law, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
California residents: we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not offer financial incentives in exchange for personal information.
UK and EU residents: if you believe we have handled your information improperly, you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
Our books and websites are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under 16 in the UK and EU. If you believe a child has given us their information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Our sites use encrypted connections, and we choose reputable providers to store data on our behalf. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our business or the services we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
